UK APEX SIG?
June 23rd, 2008 | Oracle APEX
The interest in APEX is definitely growing and it’s obvious that Oracle has a lot of pride in it. There’s a great deal of APEX buzz at the Oracle events, such as the recent ODTUG08 where Dimiti Gielis, Patrick Wolf, John Scott and Scott Spendolini have all been involved in the excitement. However, some of us can’t simply jump on a plane and jet off to America to join in these events.
Yes I’d love to go and yes I’m totally jealous of those that get the opportunity to go. I love America and relish any excuse to visit. But in the current climate where the cost of fuel is soaring, the price of flights is ever increasing and we’re being urged to consider our carbon footprint, is there a call for more local SIG groups or at least one this side of the atlantic?
We’ve recently seen the creation of an APEX User Group in Quebec (still not much closer to home!), so is there a market for an APEX User Group or APEX SIG in the UK? Would you be interested in attending one? I’m sure there are other people like me with a passion for APEX but without the financial backing or personal circumstances that allow them to travel to the big Oracle events.
If there is already one and I’ve missed the information then please let me know. I’ve searched the web and blogs but can’t find anything in the UK.

Hi Sara,
Yes definitely, there is a gap for an Apex SIG here in the UK.
I did have a conversation about it with someone from the UKOUG a while ago and perhaps it’s time to do something about it?

Hi John
Well volunteered!
I’ll give it a couple of weeks and see how many other people are interested.

Ah it wasn’t really a ‘volunteer’, more a ‘we’ should do something about it

I would really like to go to an Oracle Apex event in UK. There is so much potential in this tool. I like the idea of not needing an Appserver or a webserver and having all middleware in the database, this reduces complexity and maintenance time. Apex-EPG (Embedded PL/SQL Gateway) is the way to the future. There could be so much cost saving benefits of using this tool. An excellent ASP service! I want to see Oracle Events in UK talking about Apex, very much! Events somewhere where I can travel with a train ticket and not a plane ticket.
